Sitting in Bruce Evensen's 501 class and we are watching clips of WCTU and their non-violent protest against alcohol. Hearing about this nation wide protest reminded me of the different #occupy that are taking place around the globe currently. So what if WCTU's protest took place today instead of the early 1870s. Occupy Wall Street reach mainstream media because of an isolated event that happened in New York. The YouTube video, where the police were pepper spraying protesters, has spread like wild-fire and has brought awareness to the issue. There was a server lack of media coverage at the Chicago protest today. What I found particularly interesting was a week ago the protests in New York City received a substantial amount of media coverage. However, it was also the lack of organization that might be to blame. Given that the majority of the people in attendance didn't really know why they were attending made it an almost lackluster protest that didn't really seem to have a real meaning.
